"So there you have it. How embarrassing, right?" email - June 14, 2010

"Me touching The Strait of Magellan"

"me and la Bourne going to jail"

"the wigs"

"me calling punta arenas to repentence from Fort Bulnes"

Hey fam! What's up?

Okay so I have to keep up my end of the deal and tell you about the skirt incident.
Okay, so this is how it all went down…

It was on the morning of a bright, cool, autumn day in Punta Arenas. Hermana Bourne and Hermana Burningham were out taking care of business as usual. They had two appointments that morning (seeing as it was Wednesday) and were on their way to save some souls. Unfortunately, when they passed by for the first appointment, nobody answered the door. They were most likely sleeping. Chileans tend to do that a lot… :) Keeping up their energy they concluded that they would walk about and do some contacts as they waited for their next appointment. As they walked about at the end of the earth, they contemplated the things of the universe and conversed on topics such as the salvation of mankind. It was in this moment, deep in serious conversation, that Hermana Burningham felt something strange around her ankles. Thinking it was a stray wire in the street that had caught her foot (as had happened previously) she kept walking, trying to kick it off. When that didn’t seem to work, she reached down in an attempt to untangle herself. To her horror, as she looked down she saw that it was not a wire that had her caught but her own skirt! “My skirt fell down!” She gasped, reaching down to fix the situation, hoping that no one had seen. She discovered that she had noticed too late. An old and drunk Chilean man on the corner had seen her and was laughing his head off and pointing. Surely he had never been more amused in his life. Hermana Burningham just smiled and finished zipping back up her skirt, shook the man’s hand and gave him a card with a picture of Christ, and then she and Hermana Bourne continued onward in the work of the Lord. Surely there is nothing more humbling than being a missionary.

So there you have it. How embarrassing, right? :) Oh well.

So the camp out sounds fun. :) I like the idea. Wow, you got all those boys up at six every day to study the scriptures? That's awesome! Great idea Dad. I bet that was a neat experience.

So the activity went well. Not many showed up but those who did were edified... is that a word? No sé. Fue edificante la actividad. :) And the Baptism was amazing! :) Alvaro and Laura were so happy! And their cute son Franco (four) laughed when they dunked Laura in the water. He just loved it and he just loves coming to church. Then the Joseph Smith Program went really well. The egos went away because in the end we never had time to run through the whole thing to see when everyone comes in and how it all worked together and so everyone was forced to forget themselves and trust completely in the Lord. The spirt was SOOOOO Strong! It was great. I wish you could have seen it too. :) But wow, it was great. And all the soloists were so humble. None of them, (except Hermano Cardenas who came from Osorno to sing with us) had ever sung a solo like that before. It was just really cool. We really worked this time to let more people participate and it went really well. :)

Anyway, cambios are this week. Hermana Bourne is going up north and Hermana Smith is coming down to be with me. I met her once for like two seconds when she first arrived in Chile. She seemed really sweet.

Well, I love you guys!!! You're the best!!! I hope you have a great week! LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Con MUCHO amor,
Madi
